The electric Exhaust Control Valve (E-ECV) is used to control exhaust gas mass flow. Valve is assembled behind turbocharger gas outlet.
It generates a controlled parasitic load on the engine during periods of low crank-shaft load and/or speed, thereby increasing the temperature of the exhaust stream, warming the DPF and/or oxidation catalysts.
Exhaust flow is controlled through an actuator operating on a butterfly valve, which will meter flow as commanded by the ECU.
